Sixmilebridge
Sixmilebridge is a vibrant village central to Shannon, Limerick and Ennis. It has all amenities
and facilities that are needed to make it the perfect destination for your family holiday or
weekend getaway. The town has 7 pubs, 2 restaurants, supermarket, fast food, chemists,
doctors, laundrette, bookmakers, library and Bureau de Change.
Sixmilebridge is a historical village that was once a booming industrial town. At one stage i
even had boats from Amsterdam arrive up the O'Garney River to the corn mills. Its industrial
decline came when a bridge was built in Rossmanager by another family in 1784. Up until
the time the bridge in Bunratty was built in 1804, Sixmilebridge was on the main road to the
West. Sixmilebridge has unrealised potential. It is architecturally attractive with is three
squares, a green and its focal point of the stone bridge over the river. It is from this bridge
that Sixmilebridge gets it name from. From that bridge over the mountain or as they say "as
the crow flies" to Thomondgate in Limerick city is 6 Irish miles: the Irish mile being 2,240
yards in length. Many people visit the area thinking that the bridge is actually 6 miles long.
Sixmilebridge is the perfect place for weekend trips as it is so close to Shannon International
Airport that after a 10 minute taxi ride, you can start your weekend or holiday straight away.
Sixmilebridge has plenty of entertainment as the local pubs provide traditional music and
modern music. They also show all soccer and GAA matches.
Bridge Side is within walking distance of all the above mentioned amenities as it is situated
in the centre of the village.
